From The Cornucopia Project

Kids love to eat what they grow in the garden…..now let’s get them into the kitchen!

Our Cool Chefs program equips students in grades 3 through 6 with the skills they need to prepare healthy meals and snacks. Working alongside their peers in this 5-week after-school program, students of all skill and ability levels will creatively engage in making nutritious and delicious recipes. Our newly redesigned Cool Chefs lessons will also center on reducing food waste while incorporating more plant-based and planet-friendly practices.

Grades 3/4, In the Kitchen – March 20 (5 weeks)

Students will experiment with an array of recipes focusing on healthy breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack, and dessert options with ingredients sourced directly from local gardens when possible. A culminating “Chopped Challenge” finale (similar to the popular Chopped television show) will offer students a chance to practice their culinary skills and knowledge in a friendly team competition. Location: Peterborough Community Center Kitchen.  Fee: $75 for 5 weeks (early bird registration on or before March 5; $85 after March 5.  Registrations close March 16.

Grades 5/6, Visiting Chefs Tour – March 22 (5 weeks)

Students will have opportunities to gain hands-on culinary skills by working directly with local chefs: students will visit local restaurants and chefs will visit the community kitchen. This mentorship model will focus on building students’ culinary confidence and provide dynamic learning opportunities. Locations: Various Peterborough restaurants and the Peterborough Community Center Kitchen.  Fee: $100 for 5 weeks (for early bird registration on or before March) $110 after March 5.  Registrations close March 16.

For those students attending Peterborough schools, after-school buses are available from Peterborough Elementary School and South Meadow School. Students attending from other local schools must provide their own transportation.

Scholarships: A limited number of scholarships will be made available.
