Celebrate NH Eat Local Month with the Monadnock Food Co-op

The Monadnock Food Co-op celebrates New Hampshire Eat Local Month with events that celebrate our farmers and local food producers. The local harvest is abundant this time of year, so the Co-op and partners around the state are hosting events and specials that make it easy for everyone to enjoy eat locally-grown in August.

As part of the NH Eat Local Month festivities Monadnock Food Co-op kicks off the month with a sales flyer completely devoted to local items. The Co-op will also host a workshop Preserving the Harvest with author Celeste Longacre, on August 2 from 5:30 – 7pm.

The Co-op’s August Local Food BBQ is on Friday the 4th from 5-7pm. The BBQ will feature house-made, and locally-sourced ingredients from Archway Farm, Templeton Family Organics, Picadilly Farm, Orchard Hill Breadworks, Tracie’s Community Farm and more! There will also be live music in the amphitheater for families to enjoy.

The Monadnock Food Co-op will host a farm tour of the iconic Alyson’s Orchard in Walpole, NH on August 12th from 10-11am. Then on August 19th the Co-op welcomes families to their annual Ice Cream Social Fundraiser with Walpole Creamery on the Co-op’s patio. Walpole Creamery is donating ice cream and the Co-op is providing a delicious range of sundae toppings. Suggested donation per sundae is $5, which will be used to fund scholarships for local kids to attend farm summer camps via the Jeffrey P. Smith Scholarship Fund.

“This is a time of year when we really have an abundance of local food to offer,” said Michael Faber, MFC General Manager, “We hope folks will also be inspired to eat more locally grown, raised, and made food all year long, as so many of the great products produced in our region really are available year-round” said Michael Faber, Monadnock Food Co-op’s General Manager.
